Title A name given to the resource Soothing Stitches Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2022 Description An account of the resource This piece is part of a series I completed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic examining how my close friends find calm in chaos. Each piece explores an activity that serves as a form of stress relief and self-expression. In my neighbor Peggy's case, that activity is cross-stitching. Throughout my investigation, I experimented with materials that added a personal connection between the subject and the artwork, so I painted this piece on some of Peggy's leftover Aida fabric and added real cross-stitch detailing. I also incorporated subtle cool tones in Peggy's hair, glasses and clothing to communicate the sense of calm that cross-stitch brings her.
