This self-portrait was done using a mirror. Looking at myself for a prolonged period of time made me focus on the facial features I hated most. However, I began to see how these features made the person I am as I continued drawing.
This work is part of a triptych of larger paintings of my cat in a hat. The completed triptych will have The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. I was inspired by the work of Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas.

This piece is a printed scan of a page in my sketchbook. I used watercolor and gouache to paint the zinnias I had gotten from the Lawrence Farmer's Market.
The vase depicted in this work was my great-grandmother's, and now my mom keeps it populated with Alstroemeria lilies. These lilies were also in my grandmother's wedding bouquet, making this print a generational piece.
