Description

"Eye of the Beast" plays upon a non-representational, abstract frame referencing my Jack Russell terrier. Presenting the head itself displays a sense of drama with the viewer only seeing from the perspective of the headless dog. The rest of the scattered shapes are from the body of the animal, but close into the head as if it was a source of light. The saturated colors make the eyes pupil clear with showcasing it's direction to the far left, staring off from the viewer's presence. This represents how our companions can vision their own world differently than we do and reaching to expand upon that worldview.

I created this scary self-portrait to portray that feeling of needing to take a break. I portray myself disconnecting or taking a break from what I'm presented with by removing my eyes. I used dramatic lighting and a downward angle to portray my discomfort and emphasize the spookiness of the portrait.

This exhibit is an exposition of the history, planning, development, and execution of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, and the 1904 genocide against the Nama and Herero people of present day Namibia. The exhibit also clearly reveals the impact that these two genocides have had on the lives of survivors, perpetrators, and their families and communities.
