Her current project examines the development of the Six Kannon cult in Japan, with particular emphasis on associated sculptures and paintings; makes connections between this cult and the still active Thirty-Three Kannon cult; and considers how the patronage of Kannon cults changed from an elite to a popular practice. Through her research, she discovered that, beginning in the tenth century, the island of Kyushu was the site of great activity in the history of the Six Kannon cult.
