This leather is from the original binding of the Kenneth Spencer Research Library's copy of <em>Barclay His Argenis </em>(<em>1636). </em>Visible is the transfer of ink from the Old English manuscript leaf once pressed up against the leather. The Old English leaf had been used as manuscript waste to shore up the binding.
