Here I am thinking of feet as vessels in in of themselves, not just part of a vessel, our body. The purpose of feet for those who constantly use them for work, migration or running away from a war is what drove this concept of hanging feet. It is kind of a humorous image, the idea of someone taking off their feet for the day and hanging them to "rest", placing great importance on them, as the clothes are disregarded. However that highlights the struggles of those who have no other choice but to constantly "abuse" their feet to survive. Title A name given to the resource Utenzi wa Vita vya Maji-Maji [Epic of the Maji-Maji war] Description An account of the resource With the conquest of East African peoples by Germany in Tanganyika and by the British in Kenya, the realities of colonial politics led to further secularization and, along with it, indigenization of thematic material in utenzi poetry. Utenzi wa Vita vya Maji-Maji written by a Sufi scholar from Lindi a few years after the Maji-Maji rebellion occurred (1905-1907) in inland Tanganyika, brings these virulent and tragic realities to the attention of the contemporary reader. Written in the utenzi tradition, the author chronicles the war from an African point of view in a lengthy poem of 334 stanzas. Title A name given to the resource Utenzi wa vita vya uhuru, 1939 hata 1945 [Poem of the war of freedom, 1939 to 1945] Description An account of the resource Utenzi wa vita vya uhuru, composed by the noted and prolific Tanzanian author, Shaaban Robert, is possibly the longest utenzi poem ever written. In 3,000 stanzas, Robert recounts the events of World War II from the German invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1939 to the defeat of the Axis powers in 1945. The entire war is summarized, with inclusion of important battles and events of the struggle. The poem is important for its presentation of the African perspective on the war and its depiction of the role of African troops in various arenas of wartime activity. So far as is known, it is the first of the utenzi poems to relate events occurring outside the East African sphere of events.
