Title

Empress Wang refuses to look at the emperor’s naked women

Description

In another illustration from the Illustrated Biographies of Exemplary Women, Emperor Ming (reigned 466-472) of the Liu Song dynasty once outraged his empress during a grand gathering in which he had everyone watch a group of palace women take their clothes off. Unwilling to take part, Empress Wang covered her face with her fan. When she criticized the emperor for his excesses, he became angry and ordered her to leave.
