Having found myself walking along the banks of the Kansas River with a lighter, camera, and a left-behind chair, I did what simply seemed to feel right at the time. To me, this image evokes themes of loss, isolation, and grief, but perhaps also subtle acceptance. The process of burning is inherently transient, but carries along with it a sense of finality. In this moment, it felt as though I was holding some sort of solitary memorial, although for whom I do not know.
