Hope.

How great and cheering is the influence which hope exerts upon those who are laboring under afflictions the most sore, and are oppressed by the cares and sorrows which are so often experienced by the human race! Is it that alone which sustains the person who has been wrongfully deprived of his many and hard earned possessions, and who has been disowned and scorned by his relations and denied access to that circle in society, in which he had heretofore been a welcome visiter. To is that which then intimates that he may yet recover his lost possessions, and be restored to that position among his relations and in society which he once enjoyed.

How pleasant is the feeling which hope inspires, when it leads you to believe that you will yet secure some object which you have been looking long and anxiously for; or when in trouble that the succour which you imagine would achieve you, and which you have long expected would soon be received, and presents to you in future a picture of happiness. Feelings of despair will sometimes overcome you, but they may soon be driven away and hope can again come to your relief and by its soothing influence again revive you drooping spirits.
