Description
Every summer I grew up in the South Carolina Lowcountry because because each year as a military kid I would move to a new state or country, so Mt Pleasant, SC began to be the closest thing I could call home. Sweetgrass basketry has been a tradition there for almost four centuries and is now a dying artform as many young people are not learning the craft. I began learning the craft both out of a love for the area and history and because I have always loved the baskets sold across the city and hearing the stories of those who make them. Sewing sweetgrass baskets is now a part of my history and I hope I can help keep this craft alive and thriving.
