Stack Scrap drawings are a documentation of plastic grocery bag scrap bundles - the byproduct of my personal manufacturing process used to create my coiled basket Smokestack sculptures. The plastic bag scraps take on an organic, almost-floral quality, contrasting the synthetic, non-biodegradable material from which they are made. Handmade paper is similarly made of offcuts and paper waste from my studio. This low-waste studio practice draws attention to the irony of recycling as the “personal responsibility” of individual end consumers, versus the massive scale of pollution and waste caused by global industry.
