This work is about that familiar feeling that people can get when viewing photographs. It can remind them of their own childhood or favorite memories. In this work, I focused on that feeling. For this photograph, I focused on having a slow shutter speed so that the water appeared calm. The flatness from the water and land past the water created a familiar relaxing scene for the viewers. The bright sun helps cast dark shadows on the dock poles helping the composition to be engaging for the viewer as well. I chose to name this piece in french. Être is the verb meaning to be. The empty and open space in this photograph can settle people's emotions and just be. It was a moment of chance from the back porch of my parent's house. The light was about to go under the horizon but the colors from the sky were the brightest I had ever seen. So, I took the chance to capture this one moment in time. Since this opportunity is so fleeting that is why I called the piece a goddess because it was a moment I could have missed and never gotten to look back on, but the world allowed me to stop time for all to see. I got the chance to go to London and Paris with a group of future photographers like myself. This photograph was taken while I was in Paris. It was an apartment building getting blocked by these bright green trees. It was like Paris was being revealed or unveiled to the viewer. That is why I named the title in French not only to honor where it was captured but also because that word means to unveil something. In modern times, we must pay for the right and the ability to use our bodies, whether it relates to disability, medicine, sexwork, or manual labor, and the machine of capitalism threatens to take this reality to horrific extremes. Here, I've imagined the grim possibility of a subscription service to even the most essential body parts, and encourage viewers to reflect on the implications of a system like this in both their everyday lives, and society as a whole. I had forgotten to turn over the film holder for the second photo after I had taken the first one not realizing what I had done until I was developing. As I pulled the negatives out of the Jobo tank I was greeted with a lovely double negative. At first I was disappointed in myself, but after scanning and seeing how it turned out my mind changed instantly.
