Title A name given to the resource Enchanted Lamp Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2023 Description An account of the resource The Enchanted Lamp is a work which necessitates the audience to come closer and look deeper into it. At the first glance, it looks like a simple painting of a lamp as its main protagonist but as one attempts a closer inspection, you can start to catch a glimpse of the dazzling colors which speckle throughout the work and create a story for its audience. The scene is set at dawn with the windows dark and colors shimmering from the afterglow of the sunset as the lamp stands still in the center with a sole lightbulb shining mightily to brighten the whole scene. A closer look and the viewer can identify the benevolent fungi and mushroom adorning the lamp, telling a tale of forgotten time and perhaps serving as the companions to the lone beacon of light. The scene is surrealistic and the illuminating pastel color palette adds to the somber and mystifying scene. There is mystery hidden for the viewers, a question about the existence and past of the lamp, perhaps even regarding the ownership of the lamp. The artist uses numerous different brushstrokes to create a dynamic light quality to reveal the rays of light illuminating the painting. The faint brushstrokes combined with the heaviness of the paint on canvas, creates a strong sense of depth. The structural shape of the lamp, the colorful mushrooms and the arcane light quality all come together to create a spectacularly theatrical scene of the mundane object, which one cannot look into enough. Title A name given to the resource Lost Love Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2023 Description An account of the resource Dreams offer an opportunity for people to endlessly explore the wildest feelings and the most forgotten of memories stored deep in their subconscious. Dreams offer a space for reason to take leave and for fantasy to become an unstoppable reality. In my work, I explore this sensation through the iridescent essence of color using multimedia artwork. This painting explores the concept of lost love which I experienced in a dream. The feeling of sadness and loneliness in an endless space but also the feeling of peace in the safety of my own mind. As the viewers look into the work of art, they feel the panic, confusion and other emotions of being in a dimensionless space. The painting also encourages the audience to explore what is real and what is true; what is space and what is a box. It is easy to get lost in dreams and wake up disoriented, and this painting represents that emotion. Title A name given to the resource Supernova in the Sky Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2023 Description An account of the resource This piece of work invites the viewers to learn and admire astronomical phenomena beyond the Earth. A supernova is a giant catastrophic explosion which destroys a star at the end of its massive life. An eruption so colossal that even a naked eye could spot one happening millions of miles away. In the artwork, we see the artist use many different textures and objects to create a dynamic atmosphere. We can see the bright silhouette of the star in the middle of the work surrounded by a nucleus of waves and particles to emphasize the huge energy released in this process. Though done entirely in black and white, this piece does not fail to give the audience a sense of space and scale. One can see the tiny stars in the background as one looks closer. As the viewers look into this work, they get the chance to admire a wonder of the universe and appreciate the technique and textures used by the artist to replicate a supernova on Earth. Title A name given to the resource Window of Dreams Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2023 Description An account of the resource There is nothing simple about the composition of this painting. From the extremely detailed look into the landscape to the inspiration behind the work: Window of Dreams will have something of interest for everyone. Influenced by Peter Paul Rubens work, this painting brings out the bold Earthy colors often used in the Dutch Baroque. The gigantic hills on the right hold the mighty Campanile and Fraser hall, two famous landmarks of the KU campus, which merge into a waterfall adorned with an elegant rainbow. The playful valleys on the left are decorated by mighty mountains blending into a turquoise blue stream of fresh water. The painting is crowned by an arch of angels, each representing a notable woman in history who the artist is inspired by. The composition will have the viewers crouching down searching in depth for the details. The entire painting is an ode to KU and its natural beauty presented through the eye of the art period known to capture the soul of landscapes. There is so much packed in this work that the viewer is guaranteed to keep finding a new detail to celebrate, much like the KU history. The artist uses many references from Peter Paul Ruebens works to make the landscape truly Baroque inspired, from the flesh tone color palette to the painstakingly detailed landscape - this work is nothing if not a reminder of the world which is not real but one which can stay ingrained in the minds of its audience forever. Title A name given to the resource Grip on Reality Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2023 Description An account of the resource The print ‘Grip on Reality’ plays with the perspective in the composition. The background of the print outlooks the architecture of a religious institution and in the middle of the print we can see a giant-sized ambiguous figure laying down on the ground using the buildings as support. I used everything from cardboard, mesh, wire, threads, fabric, modelling paste, paper, aluminum foil and plastic to provide texture in the piece providing for an eye-catching art experience. The negative space in the composition adds to the grandeur of the structure and the figure. The oval frame of the artwork compels the viewers attention and helps the artwork stand out. A majority of the LGBTQ+ population lives in fear of religious retribution and violence. Modesty is seen as a big part of the major world religions. This print works on highlighting the importance of self expression despite religious persecution.
