I engraved this image I took of a grazing cow onto porcelain tiles, questioning the relationship humans have with animals and thinking about my heritage. Title A name given to the resource Procne et Philomela Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2025 Description An account of the resource Ovid's tale of Procne and Philomela explores love and revenge as it portrays the lengths a woman would go for her sister. As a woman with two sisters, I could deeply relate to Procne’s protective nature over Philomela. I was amazed that I could resonate with a piece of literature so intensely, especially one written thousands of years ago. Knowing that an ancient text could transcend time and that a modern reader could relate to it made me realize the importance of literature in understanding human nature. Wade, this piece confronts the interference in women’s reproductive rights. The background is composed of long-winded birth control warning sheets while a central pomegranate, a symbol of fertility, is encircled by a golden halo. Male hands, clumsy and forceful, tear into the fruit, spilling its staining juice and scattering its seeds. The violent peeling reflects the destruction of bodily autonomy, evoking the fragility of reproductive rights and the consequences of their dismantling. I wanted to showcase how cows interact with each other, and the romanticization of owning livestock. This image was a part of a series of images that focused on the intersection and romanticization of enjoying the American countryside. I feel as though many people look past the beauty and attractiveness of raising animals. Nature's raw natural beauty should be celebrated and captured, especially when it is such a huge part of our daily lives. America is built on livestock and farming industries. In my work, I aim to inspire a greater appreciation for the deep-rooted connection between humans, animals, and the land.
