As a tourist, I wandered, taking in the stunning views and tasting sun-soaked fruit.. But behind the stand is a person who sees that same breathtaking view every day, not as a tourist, but as someone working long hours to make a living. The shopkeepers pick up bits of English through daily exchanges with foreign tourists. They learn English out of necessity, not for fun or curiosity, like many of us do. As tourists, we wander freely while altering the rhythm of someone else’s everyday life. In capturing this moment, I hoped to shed light on the generations of Italian farmers who have generously shared the fruits of their labor with passing tourists, while we, in return, often offer little beyond fleeting admiration, taking far more than we give culturally. Title A name given to the resource A City's Rainy Embrace Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2025 Description An account of the resource This photo was taken on a rainy day in Chicago, where strangers hurried under umbrellas and raincoats, shuffling through slick sidewalks and puddles. Despite being a visitor, in the rain I felt an unexpected sense of home. Across the globe, we all share the feeling of cold drops on our skin, with wet strands of hair glued to our faces, speed-walking to our destinations. I noticed in the rain, people tend to be more gracious towards strangers—holding doors, sharing smiles, offering a nod, acknowledging the universal sensation of rain washing over us. The animals, locals, and tourists alike seek refuge from the storm, and as such, the downpour unites us. As this vibrant rooster crossed the street, a cyclist rang his bell, expressing his frustration with the bird. Of course, the bird did not seem to be bothered by the cyclist, let alone the litter scattered along the road. As Bandaraban welcomes more tourists each year, the animals may soon need to learn the rules of the road. I wanted to showcase how cows interact with each other, and the romanticization of owning livestock. This image was a part of a series of images that focused on the intersection and romanticization of enjoying the American countryside. I feel as though many people look past the beauty and attractiveness of raising animals. Nature's raw natural beauty should be celebrated and captured, especially when it is such a huge part of our daily lives. America is built on livestock and farming industries. In my work, I aim to inspire a greater appreciation for the deep-rooted connection between humans, animals, and the land. Title A name given to the resource Manabi Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2025 Description An account of the resource This image was taken on, A Journey to Ecuador: University of Kansas and University of Vermont. This special photo captures the spirit of the 2024 spring break student-led trip where I led a multi-disciplinary group of students to Los Arboleros Farm in the Manabí providence of Ecuador. This trip, partnered with Regeneration Field Institute, studied the agricultural model of agroforestry to support regenerative farming practices and the restoration of critically endangered rainforests in Ecuador. Our trip dove into the management of crop-producing forest systems, bamboo engineering, and social entrepreneurship through circular agriculture economies. In one of our many tours through protected restored forests, a butterfly landed atop the dense forest floor of shrubs, grasses, and vines. The transformation of a depleted landscape and the resiliency of the community to build shared environmental equity amongst rising climate crises characterizes this snapshot of beautiful Manabí. Title A name given to the resource The Rise Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2025 Description An account of the resource There once lived a being who, in the desperate and unsuccessful search of light outside, found itself taking its final breaths, tired and fragile, withered and frail. While walking it's final steps down in the darkness into the dead-end path, with nowhere left to go, it decided to pause just for a single moment, out of sheer desperation to save itself. In that stillness it turned and looked within….and this is the image it witnessed. The magnificent grace. Wings which can fly, let go and leave. The fragment of the sun itself, the ever-giving source of life. The flame. The Light! In that moment, it decided to Rise, from the darkness, to finally breath, to fly and to be the light it was always meant to be.
