There is a portion that is unreadable. July 16, 1970 TO ALL BLACK PEOPLE The words on this paper are being written because Black people will never get the truth about the death of Rick Dowdell from “white” newspapers, “white” television or “white” radio stations. He was murdered by racist white policemen. He was shot with a sawedoff shot gun at close range. Earlier that evening a white female had been shot by who the racist white policemen believed to be a black man. Before his death Rick was at the AfroHouse and asked a female to take him some place, then in route happened to pass the scene of the shooting of the white woman. The police began to follow their car for reasons we do not know. Rick decided to leave the car and walk down the alley. The policemen: (1.) Did not fire a warning shot (2.) Did not ask him to stop (3.) Did not let Rick know he even wanted to stop him What he did do was to fire one blast from his riot or sawedoff shot gun striking Rick about the head & shoulder region. He died moments later. The police made no move to call [an ambulance?] until he had been lying on the ground approximately 10 minutes. This has been on [large portion is unreadable]….attacker and his skin happened to be the same color. �[Page 2] Remember he was not stopped. He was not questioned. He was not told he was under suspicion. He was murdered because of the color of his skin. This means as you read this paper the white man ca just as easily murder you. Black people we need to unite against whit oppression. Please when you are not sure about something come to the Afro-House and talk to the people there about it. We need your strength!
