Leyendecker’s piece, “The Football Player,” in a way that empowers and comments on the conflict of transgender athletes. In particular, I chose to represent Lia Thomas, who is the first openly transgender person to win a NCAA championship. Lia has been swimming since she was little but had the ability to swim competitively taken away from her due to new policies that target trans athletes. Lia now uses her voice to advocate for trans youth and letting them be more involved rather than discriminated against.
