They became my symbol of hope and resilience as I struggled to thrive throughout adolescence. Creating symbolic pieces such as this one became a practice in manifestation for me. Once I knew that I would be living in the scholarship hall, Sellards, I knew that I had to create a piece to manifest growth, resilience, and abundance in this time of significant change. The dandelion has one full bloom for the hope of me growing into myself in college, and two smaller buds to symbolize future growth. The trees, windows, and brick in the background are the distinctive characteristics of Sellards. I have adapted this pose to examine top surgery scars, presenting the trans body in a positive light by drawing a parallel to a classical goddess, especially one of love, to challenge the stigma that trans people inherently hate their bodies.
