This idea is simple, having a place of comfort and rest is a human need. The idea of "home" is completely universal- everyone who has had a home or does have one has their own world contained within this space- no one knows the place how you do, the feelings, the memories, or special parts of it. It is completely new to each person who views it and comes within it. Each home holds endless stories, all houses are homes of a million tiny moments. This photograph is from a collection of photographs that serves as a time capsule of the only house that I have known as home- encapsulating the good and the bad with each photograph. In a way each one represents different phases of my life that were lived and experienced within my grandparent's home. Even more amazing, I was surprised to find a rainbow. I tried to involve the interesting 3 vivid figures as well as the rainbow in my work with this photo. I had heard of The Blue Danube, and I had thought the Danube was blue. But when I personally saw it, I found out that most of the time it is green or gray. Title A name given to the resource Daoyou Feng (aged 44, 11 Jan 1977, Guangdong, China - 16 March 2021, Atlanta, USA) Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2024 Description An account of the resource Daoyou Feng was the last victim from the Atlanta Shooting on the evening of Tuesday March 16, 2021 to get identified. While we can see the shooter's face, his bad day, his "sex addiction," and how he was always a good boy everywhere on the internet, the only impression she left to the world was "she was from China," and "she was quiet and kind." This is not fair to me. I hope people hear about her life, her caring for her family, and how hard she had to work to live independently in the U.S. here as an immigrant who didn't speak much English. She should not be invisible. Her life was meaningful. According to the only two clear photos I can find online, I carved her portrait onto a sheet of affordable plexiglass. Then printed it with flowers with roots. Specifically in China, people say “fallen leaves return to their roots.” Her pass away and ash cannot return home made her a person without root. I disagree with that. She actually carried her roots with her at wherever she was standing. Title A name given to the resource New Yorker Subject The topic of the resource LibArt 2024 Description An account of the resource During the pandemic, a friend of my family passed away. As an immigrant from Southern China, he came to the US to work laboriously, aiming to provide a better life for his family back home. After many years of hard working, he decided to retire and reunite with them. However, the pandemic halted his plans. Stuck in the US, he continued construction work doing home building/renovating for new immigrants, as flights were not affordable. He got hit by heavy building materials at work but didn't take it seriously or seek help due to language barriers. He passed away alone, his story untold. As an immigrant myself, I created his portrait hoping to share his story with a wider audience. He didn’t speak much English, take the subway to commute, or venture into the city. Yet, he was a proud, hardworking New Yorker, an integral part of the Queens community.
