Through my wearable sculpture, I call out the toxicity of calling women "bombshell babes", and shed light on environmental degradation from dumping toxic waste into our oceans. When worn, the weight of the shell symbolizes women's burdens, while the artificial pearl ski mask critiques societal beauty norms. I aim to reveal the striking similarities between our mistreatment in women and our oceans. The intersection covering the face was a stop on my daily commute to school, symbolic of feeling stuck in the same routine with no inclination of change. There’s also a high level of helplessness in the contrast between the landscape and the portrait, emphasized through the desaturation of the face and brightness of the lights against the pavement. There's many subtle symbolic meanings within the scene, all intentionally creating the mood I was feeling in that moment.
