The opening reception for “Lasting Impact: Brown v. the Board of Education” began at 5 pm on April 11, 2014, with refreshments and live music by the KU Jazz Combo. Music was followed by a welcome from KU Dean of Libraries Lorraine J. Haricombe and an introduction by Head of the KU Libraries Community Initiatives Center Sarah Goodwin Thiel.
Remarks were given by Associate Law Professor Quinton D. Lucas, and the presentation, “The African American Struggle for Secondary Schooling, 1940-1980: Closing the Graduation Gap” was given by Professor of Sociology Shirley A. Hill and Professor of Education John L. Rury.
