Description
May 2020 in the depths of quarantine, I finally put the skills learned in my high school art experience together to create an innovative piece. Taking an old window and pairing it with my love of botanical subjects, I managed to create a strong piece with cheap paints and brushes. At first learning to paint on glass presented many challenges, as I had to find a healthy balance between wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques so that the paint wouldn’t peel off of the surface. Looking back at this painting I see it as a time-stamp of myself as a 17 year-old artist. Everything about the painting is virtually wrong. Wrong because brushes were destroyed, a crime was committed using of black to broaden color variety, brushes were destroyed, and it was varnished with mod podge. However, reminiscing on these blissful mistakes always manage to bring a smile to my face. The true joy of art is when a million bad things can happen in the process, and yet in the end there is a beautiful creation to argue none of them were truly “bad.”
