Baba's shoes

This work addresses my Arab identity reconstructed in my fathers image. His work shoes that he labors in, are tied down on a block of cement with rebar, a material I use to represent my (or our) Arab identity. Inspired by repeating moments in my childhood in which I helped my dad untie his shoes when he came back from work, this piece addresses the notion of being "tied down" by ones identity, mainly an identity that people here in the U.S have come to know as "Arab".
