More on Sumner High School

Sumner High School was established by the Kansas State Legislature in 1905 to exempt Kansas City, Kansas, from the Kansas law prohibiting racially segregated high schools. The school continued to serve as a legal racially segregated school after 1954 until its closing in 1978. Today the school is one of the city's magnet high schools.
