A life-long resident of Lawrence, Kansas, Ms. Dillard graduated from the University of Kansas in 1896. She began her teaching career in Lawrence at Pinckney School for their segregated class of African American students. Later, she served as principal of Lincoln School, an African American grade school in Lawrence.
