Photographing Soldiers

Joseph Pennell was a photographer in Junction City, Kansas. His substantial collection of photographs from the 1890s – 1920s includes many portraits of soldiers and military personnel serving at nearby Fort Riley. Shown here is a copy of an advertisement for his portraits, appearing in the 1917-1918 Yearbook of the Medical Officers’ Training Camp, and a small sampling of some of the portraits in his collection, with Joseph Pennell’s identification included in captions.
