Swimming and Diving

Swimming began at KU in 1923 when the Quack Club was founded by Ruth Hoover.  The club held elaborate water pageants every spring.  It continued on as the Synchronized Swimming Club. Under the WAA, the team did participate in intercollegiate competitions, mostly against other colleges and universities in Kansas.  In the 1970s, the team won 10 consecutive conference championships (1974-75 – 1983-84) and back-to-back conference championships twice (1987/1988-1988/1989 and 1991/1992-1992/1993).  Tammy Thomas (2-time) and Michelle Rojohn (1996) are the teams’ only national champions.  Kansas ranks in the top- 25 for individual national champions for Division I schools.
